The Lakeshore hosts two huge names in indie comedy this weekend (even if their names aren’t actually all that known yet). Paul F. Tompkins has been pushing the definition of comedy forward for a while—he wrote for “The Daily Show” (before Jon Stewart showed up, back when Craig Kilborn was hosting), and since has done work with “Mr. Show,” Tenacious D (he hosted the Open Mic, both on the show and in the movie) and, most recently, on VH1’s “Best Week Ever.” And Kristen Schaal might not be immediately recognizable—unless you’ve seen HBO’s hilarious “Flight of the Conchords,” in which she plays Mel, Bret and Jemaine’s unmistakable (and alternately creepy and adorable) superfan. People who don’t have a sharp eye for the credits on their favorite shows might be left saying “who’s that again?” about this two-day stint at Lakeshore, but those in the know can’t wait to see this show. Paul F. Tompkins and Kristen Schaal perform October 12-13 at the Lakeshore Theater, 3157 North Broadway, (773)472-3492.
