This Silk Road initiative-inspired program explores the international connection between music and dance by combining musicians from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and dancers from the Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater, which is in residence at Northern Illinois University and specializes in the dance traditions of Spain, and the Natya Dance Theatre, a Chicago-based company that specializes in the dance of classical India, in a collaboration that seeks to offer a music and dance travelogue, as it were. Pre-concert and family-friendly dance activities with company members begin one hour before each concert and the concert “finale” will include both companies dancing together to Bernstein’s “Candide” Overture.
