Last July, dancer Julie Mayer decided to open her weekly Friday morning solo movement practice performance to the public once a month in an effort to challenge audiences to join her in the process and paradigms for creating and choreographing the magic of the body in motion. Now a mother and full-time worker in her forties, Mayer has been dancing for two decades, best known for her work with the Chicago-based improvisation collective FUSE. These monthly performances also allow the opportunity for informal post-dance discussion over “bring your own” coffee. (Dennis Polkow).
