Amazing Sammo’s “Carole White and the Seven Deadly Sins” is now playing at Gorilla Tango Theatre. Disappointingly, this confused show by Sam Radom lives up to the excitement of neither the fairy tale nor the biblical pitfalls of the title. The play follows the tragic choices of wayward human Carole White (Amy Nathan). She is led astray by a gaggle of personified sins on a mission to claim souls in order to gain reentry to Hell. Potentially ripe playing ground for graphic novel fantasy, maybe because it feels like Kevin Smith and Neil Gaiman were ripped off, director C. Dylan Plummer does not seem to notice that stage pictures are unattractive and confusing. Exaggerated physicality comes and disappears completely depending on the energy the cast feels like exhibiting at any given moment. Moreover, the tight stage is simply not appropriate for a show this large. Carole White is an uncomfortable ride, but at least it is only one act. (William Scott)
