The people have spoken and the votes are in—Chicago comedian Reggie Reg’s timely impersonation of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is the people’s choice as February’s artist of the month at Gotademo.com, a Web site that offers budding artists a platform to reach the public. The comedian, who won $500, says it wasn’t about the money. “I just wanted to get an opportunity to do what I love to do and just see what people think,” he says. Reggie Reg started doing impressions of Obama after meeting the senator in Chicago a few years ago. “I got his autograph and ever since then I’ve liked him based on his record and what he’s done as a senator,” he says. The comedian looks forward to the Illinois primary election and is happy with the success it has brought him as a standup comedian. “This is a totally different campaign than there ever has been in that it has caught young people’s attention, and Barack really appeals to a younger generation.”
