Closing out an impressive weekend of stand-up, fan favorite Doug Stanhope makes his second appearance at the Lakeshore Theater. Harkening back to another time, Stanhope smokes, curses and talks shit like no other comic currently working. Although he is best known for cash-outs like the restructured, instantly cancelled “The Man Show” and the inevitable follow-up of “Girls Gone Wild” videos, Stanhope’s mainstream resume does no justice to the importance of his talents. Angry, edgy and a consummate victim of vice, Stanhope’s unwillingness to conform and ability to induce riotous laughter give his act flashes of greatness reminiscent of legends like Bill Hicks and Lenny Bruce. Stanhope’s true strength lies in his unpredictability, and when he gains momentum on a subject, it’s impossible to guess what he’ll say next. (Max Minor)
