Margaret Cho has one of the most rabid fan bases in stand-up history. Her devotees, particularly in the gay and lesbian community, have given her an almost Cher-like following, and her popularity is evident from sold-out tours and immensely well-received DVDs and specials. Cho’s last trip to Chicago found her hosting a variety show, and she now returns to do what she does best: down and dirty stand-up comedy. Cho’s material rarely strays far from her standards, including discussions on weight, being Asian and her mother, but her unique perspective, well-trained wit and skilled use of foul-mouthery allow her to transcend the well-tread subject matter of her act. Although Cho’s brash style may not be for everyone, her talent is undeniable, and her work ethic and commitment to her supporters is truly admirable. (Max Minor)
