The new kid on the block when it comes to stand-up showcases, “The Comedians You Should Know Show” has quickly established itself as a force, run by and featuring some of the funniest comics in the city. This week, Marty Derosa hosts for a particularly strong lineup, including local all-stars Hannibal Buress, Danny Kallas and Junior Stopka, and national headliner Dwayne Kennedy. Derosa is a charmer, and his affability and good-natured jibes on the happenings in the city make him an excellent choice as host for such a strong night of stand-up. Known primarily by their first names, Junior and Hannibal are two of the Chicago’s most important comedic voices, and although their acts are significantly different, their continuing impact on the scene is not. Danny Kallas, another scheduled performer who helps run the room (as do Derosa and Stopka), is a true local, delivering his satire in a trademark Chicago drawl. Headliner Dwayne Kennedy is one of the funniest comedians on the national scene, and his charged social commentary and impressive knack for showmanship make him an important comic to see. Supporting comics Michael Sanchez and Mike Cody help round out what’s destined to be a great show in a consistently great room. (Max Minor)
