There are two sides to every story. But in the Prop Thtr’s presentation of Sliced Bread Productions’ “Spokesperson, ” there are many viewpoints, and each side gleefully manipulates the truth to suit its own agenda. Candy (Jenn Remke) is the poised media face of a local manufacturing company whose perfect life is right on track. But when a local lake is poisoned by a chemical spill, she must face down an amorous environmental activist (Mackenna Murphy) and angry townspeople (Gordon Gillespie, Diane M. Honeyman). She begins to “spin” the accident until everything spins out of control.
Remke has the requisite comic touch, but her well-constructed façade is abandoned much too quickly, giving her nowhere to go when the character disintegrates. Murphy is appealing but a little flat in his seduction efforts. The real fun lies in watching Gillespie and Honeyman tear it up. They’re a hoot. (Lisa Buscani)
