PROVISION THEATER Announces Long Term Lease of Theater Complex and its 2009-2010 Season
Chicago – May 19, 2009 – Provision Theater announced today that it has signed a four year lease for the theater complex at 1001 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Chicago. The complex includes a 200 seat theater, scene shop, dressing rooms, box office, and administrative offices.
“We are very excited about this important step for Provision.” said Tim Gregory, Provision’s founder and Artistic Director, “Having a long term lease with this incredible facility will provide us with a solid base of operations from which to grow our organization. We are also looking forward to becoming an integral part of our new South Loop neighborhood.”
Provision will be hosting an Open House Celebration on June 12 to showcase their new facility. Doors will open at 6:00 pm for refreshments and tours with a special performance at 7:30 pm. The evening will end with a live auction and full reception at 8:30 pm. The event is open to the public and tickets are $50. There is free parking at the facility. Anyone interested in tickets should go to www.provisiontheater.org or call 800-838-3006.
“This Open House will be very lively and fun.” said Gregory, “The show will include pieces from our previous shows along with performances from some of the top talent in Chicago, including Provision Company Members Susan Moniz, Brad Armacost and Alaric (Rokko) Jans.”
Provision Theater has also announced the first season for its new facility. The first show will be a revamped version of a previous Provision hit – Cotton Patch Gospel with music by Harry Chapin and book by Tom Key and Russell Treys. This show features the reverential retelling of the Gospels in a contemporary southern setting and is set to bluegrass music. “We’re excited to inaugurate our new space with this fun and moving show,” said Gregory, “Those who have never seen the show before will be tappin’ their toes and hummin’ along . Those who have seen our previous production will see things they’ve never seen before, including a small Gospel choir!”
Next will be Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew co-starring Artistic Director Tim Gregory and company member and Chicago theatre veteran Susan Moniz. This will be a bold and fresh, modern day telling of this boisterous and madcap look at the battle of the sexes.
The final show of the season will be the world premiere of the best-seller, The Hiding Place adapted by Tim Gregory from the book of the same name. This show celebrates one of the most remarkable women of the 20th Century, Corrie ten Boom, and is based on the true story of her family that fought the Nazi madness with the only weapon they had: love.
