This season, Tympanic invites you to dust off your boots and get rustic with two productions exploring what we find out about ourselves and each other on the edges of civilization.
ORANGE ORBS Nov – Dec at Oracle Theatre Written by Daniel Caffrey Directed by Aaron Henrickson
Set in a Florida cornfield on Halloween Night, Orange Orbs follows two teenagers who find a baby abandoned in a pumpkin. As they try to return the child to its rightful guardian, they encounter two spectral figures and become entangled in a feud that’s older and bloodier than the fields themselves. Part southern gothic horror story and part coming-of-age tale, Orange Orbs examines how quickly terrifying events can force adolescents into adulthood.
DELIVER US FROM NOWHERE March – April
This Spring, Tympanic pairs ten playwrights with ten Chicago directors to create a piece of theatre inspired by Bruce Springsteen’s legendary album, Nebraska. Each writer uses a song on the record as the springboard for a short play before an ensemble of musicians composes original music based on the plays themselves. Deliver Us From Nowhere is a meditation on how art reflects art; a live album in the most unique sense of the word and a celebration of music that is rustic, eerie, and seething with story.
