Step Afrika! (Auditorium Theatre) The Washington, D.C.-based company dedicated to the African American tradition of stepping makes its Auditorium Theatre debut. Step Afrika! performances blend the polyrhythmic percussive dances created in Black fraternities and sororities with traditional African and contemporary dance forms, drumming and storytelling. The one-night-only performance features traditional dances of the Zulu people and South African workers, as well as “Chicago”—a piece inspired by a summer the company spent in our fair city.
